The schedule

Friday 1st September - welcome drinks

There will be welcome drinks at the St Firmin vineyard in Uzès from 5pm-8pm on Friday night and we would love to see you there! We will provide have some snacks, but for a proper meal we suggest eating in Uzès. You will be able to find something nice by just wandering around, however if you're a big group then it would be best to make a reservation.

We have listed some of the restaurants we know and recommend [ here ], and you can always check the usual sites such as [ TripAdvisor ]

Saturday 2nd September - the big day!

We will have buses to take you to Château de Vénéjan, leaving Uzes at 3pm promptly at Avenue de la Libération, just in front of Banque Populaire du Sud. Please don't be late! If anyone is planning to drive, please let us know so we can give you precise directions.

The ceremony itself will be at 4pm, then afterwards there will be a short walk to the reception (it would be a good idea to have comfortable shoes for this). For anyone who cannot walk, please let us know and we will arrange transport.

To get back to Uzès we will have some buses leaving throughout the night (10pm, midnight and 2am), and have notified local taxi companies (please check back for phone numbers).

Sunday 3rd September- BBQ brunch!

From noon to 6pm in nearby St. Quentin-La-Poterie.

The house is down an unpaved road at the junction of Chemin de Fontareches, and Chemin d'Odesti (see map below - be careful though because for some reason it puts the red marker in the wrong place if you click to make the map bigger!)

You will need to either take a taxi or your own car, but please don't drive down the unpaved road. There's no parking and no space to easily turn around. There are many parking spaces to the side of the road along Chemin de Fontareches (but make sure you're not blocking the entrance to a house!).

Dress code

Summer suits (i.e. no jeans or shorts ... and, definitely no jean-shorts!)

Miscellaneous

Children are welcome at the Friday reception, and at the Sunday brunch, but for the wedding itself we only have space for a very limited number. We will be providing a list of recommended babysitters, but do let us know if this is going to be serious problem for you and we will do our best to find a solution. We certainly don't want anyone not to be able to come!

Please remember that there will be some walking over rough ground in all of our venues, so you might want to consider having flat shoes with you.

Local highlights

This part of France has a lot to offer (and we have some more information in the Details section), but below are a few of our favourites:

Gifts

We don't have a wedding registry, but we would be very grateful for any donations to the following charities that are near to our hearts:

Uzès tourist office - [website]

Pont du Gard - constructed by the Romans almost 2000 years ago to carry water from Uzès to Nimes, the pont du gard is the highest of all known aqueducts. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in France and well worth a visit.

Potters - to be found in various places, but concentrated (there are over 20 of them) in St Quentin la Poterie - floor tiles for the Palais des Papes in Avignon came from St Quentin in the 14th century.

Beach / Camargue - there are beaches at Carnon (near Montpellier) and in the summer there are pop-up restaurants both at Carnon and at Les Saintes Maries de la Mer. The charm of Les Saintes Maries is that to get there you drive through the Camargue - the Rhône delta marshes - which are famous for the white horses and the flamingoes. There is a Bird Sanctuary just outside Les Saintes Maries.

Markets - the famous Uzès market takes place on Saturday mornings and spreads throughout the town. There are food stalls, fish stalls, clothing stalls - almost everything in fact. And at the Café de L’Esplanade you can (if you can get a table) sit down and order a glass of Picpoul white wine and then go across the road to order a plate of oysters which then get brought to your table.

Wine Tasting
Uzes: Domaine de Malaïgue (just outside Uzès on the road to Pont St Nicolas), Domaine Chabrier and Les Collines de Bourdic (both at the town of Bourdic on the road from Uzès to Moussac). There are lots of others worth exploring too.
15 mins away: Côtes de Rhone - all wine
20 mins away: Tavel / Lirac - both areas famous for rosé
45 min away: to Chateauneuf-du-Pape / Gigondas / Vacqueyras (Red primarily)

The SNCF (train) company [website] also has some other local attractions.

It is likely to be quite busy at the end of August/beginning of September so some of the hotels more on the outskirts of Uzès will be better for people with a car (although there are taxis of course).

The hotels right in the centre of Uzès are: Hôtel Entraigues [website] and L’Hostellerie Provençale [website]. A bit further out are The Best Western, Patio de Violette and St Geniès.

We have some block bookings in Entraigues and Provencale, so mention our names if you book there.

A french chambres d’hôte can be a good alternative to a hotel. There are a few in the centre of Uzès e.g. Le Richelieu [website].

Also, AirBNB and HomeAway have loads of places in Uzès and the local area, many even with swimming pools.

Nearby airports

Nîmes-Garons [website] - this is a little airport 40 km/45 mins away (there are only flights from a few airports e.g. London Luton). From here you can get a taxi to your hotel (which will be around 90 euros) or get an airport shuttle bus into Nimes itself and then get a bus to Uzes. Bus timetables are on the Edgard [website]. The relevant bus line to Uzès is E52. The current timetable only runs until July, but is a good indication. The car hire companies at the airport are Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Alamo and National Citer and Sixt.

Montpellier airport [website] - this is 80km/1 1/4 hours away, and is quite a bit bigger. You can then get a train to Nîmes but getting to the station from the airport is a bit irritating as you have to take the Airport Shuttle (line 120) to the Place de l’Europe and then a tram (no 1) to St Roch Station. [website]. It might be better to get a taxi to the station.

Marseille [website] - this is 130km/1.5 hours away. From the airport there is a good shuttle to the station, from where you can get trains to Avignon and Nîmes [railway website].

By train

You can get trains from Paris to Avignon TGV train station and to Nîmes (both of which are 45 mins drive from Uzes or about 90 euros in a taxi, and bus timetables are on the Edgard [website]). The train takes about 2 hours 40 mins, and costs from about 60 euros (if you book far enough in advance!) [railway website].
